Amid the storm of allegations involving actor Shine Tom Chacko, Soothravakyam producer Srikanth Kandragula has come forward with a strong statement, appealing to audiences to rally behind the Malayalam film and not let the controversy derail the efforts of the entire cast and crew.
The incident came to light after actress Vincy Aloshious filed a formal complaint, accusing Shine Tom Chacko of misconduct and suspected drug use during the filming of Soothravakyam. Her complaint was officially registered with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). While acknowledging the gravity of the issue, Kandragula stressed the importance of not letting one individual’s alleged actions define the entire production.
“We’ve given everything to bring this story to life. It’s painful to see that the conversation has shifted away from what really matters — the film,” said Kandragula. “As the producer, I remain fully committed to this project and to the integrity of everyone who worked on it.”
He urged the public to maintain a separation between real-life incidents and cinematic art, noting how personal controversies can sometimes unfairly taint the work of many.
“I understand people are concerned — and rightly so. But Soothravakyam is more than just one person. It’s a project born from dedication, emotion, and endless hours of hard work. We owe it to the team to judge the film on its own merit.”
Kandragula, who is not a native of Kerala, shared how his admiration for Malayalam cinema’s storytelling excellence drew him to the film. He spoke candidly about his emotional connection to the industry and his desire to contribute to its legacy.
“Malayalam cinema has always stood out for its authenticity and emotional richness. Being part of Soothravakyam has been a transformative journey for me. I hope audiences recognize the heart behind this project and give it the support it truly deserves,” he said.
As the controversy escalates, new developments have added fuel to the fire. CCTV footage reportedly shows Shine Tom Chacko fleeing a hotel during a narcotics raid by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF). Though Chacko was previously acquitted in a 2015 drug-related case, Kerala’s Excise Minister M.B. Rajesh criticized the outcome, calling it the result of “a major lapse” in police procedures.
The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has publicly praised Vincy Aloshious for speaking out, reinforcing the growing concern over drug abuse and safety issues in the Malayalam film industry.
Despite the uproar, Kandragula remains hopeful. He believes that audiences can still embrace the film for what it is — a heartfelt creative endeavor — and show support for the many who worked behind the scenes.
“We made this film with passion and integrity. Every bit of support counts — not just for the film, but for the entire ecosystem of artists and professionals behind it,” Kandragula concluded.
Soothravakyam is slated for release later this year.
